Thermo Scientific’s TEOM 1405-DF brings together in a single case a double microbalance that measures simultaneously PM-10 and PM-2.5 fractions of airborne dust.
A third fraction is also available: PM-Coarse, which is consistent with dust that has an aerodynamic diameter between 2.5 and 10 microns. It also includes a dual FDMS module quantifying the concentration of volatile and semi-volatile dusts.
Dust separation according to its size is then performed by a sampling device, containing a PM-10 head, as well as a PM-2,5 virtual impactor. The heart of the TEOM 1405-DF is a double inertial microbalance that uses two tapered elements oscillating at its natural frequency (TEOM - Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance).
