Question 3

How long do the cartridges retain their calibration for?

The connected EcomSmart, EcomZen, EcomLite stations are provided with a new sensor cartridge which we have calibrated. The cartridges are calibrated with reference instruments. The calibration of the cartridges lasts for 12 months thanks to the various algorithms that take into account drifts in temperature, pressure, and humidity. After one year, users can buy new sensor cartridges, or return their old ones to be recycled and receive a discount of 50% on the price of a new cartridge. The recycled cartridges will go through the same rigorous calibration process.

The EcomLite station includes some pre-calibrated sensors (COV, CO2) and we recommend that you change the cartridge every year to guarantee the quality of the measurements.

Question 4

What maintenance or calibration should be carried out?

No maintenance or calibration is required besides changing the cartridge every year, according to our recycling program. The gas, temperature and humidity sensors are tested in our laboratories and calibrated according to the reference  instruments’ methods. No specific maintenance is required regarding the electronics. If your devices fail to work properly, you will receive an alert by email (to be configured on the platform). Ecomesure will provide you with support and assistance at every stage.

Question 5

Should I do anything in particular when I receive the stations, or are they ready to be used?

The devices are plug & play in cellular mode If a SIM card is already provided by Ecomesure and can be easily installed: onto an electrical post with a fixing plate, onto a wall with a fixing plate, or onto a stable support.

If the devices are communicating data through Wifi,  you will need to download the Ecomsettings software which will have been sent to you and follow the instructions in the video tutorial or the user manual provided with the device to configure with Wifi. In addition, Ecomesure's mobile app helps you install, configure and troubleshoot both EcomLite 2 and EcomZen 2 without any assistance. We shall of course be available to help you set up your stations.

Question 6

Can the stations operate autonomously?

When configuring your EcomSmart and EcomZen stations, you can add an internal backup battery, lasting up to eight hours, to provide power in the event of small power cuts. The battery is integrated into the station and cannot be purchased separately.  This internal backup battery is included for any purchase of EcomZen 2, EcomLite 2 and EcomTrek.

For locations that are isolated and without access to a power source, you can add an external battery, lasting three days, or a solar panel, to the Ecomsmart station. The standard version of the solar panel is designed to enable an EcomSmart in Paris 24/7 all year round. For different locations, send Ecomesure your GPS coordinates, and the positioning and period of use.

Question 7

Is the data lost if the internet connection is lost?

The connected stations (EcomSmart, EcomTrek, EcomZen and EcomLite) have an integrated flash memory (SD card) that can store data for up to 30 days. In the event of a loss in internet connection, the EcomZen/Trek/Smart/Lite stations carry on recording data in their internal memory and send them to the web platform when the internet connection is restored.

In the same way, the EcomBox can store your instruments’ data for up to two weeks. We can also add an additional memory that can store up to two years of data.

Question 8

How are the stations connected to the internet?

Via the Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 3/4G, LoRa or Zigbee networks. If the stations are too far away from the internet connection, we can add the EcomBox communications box (box-to-box radio) to extend the range, create a radio network or even put in place Wi-Fi distributors according to the available technology and the configuration of the site. We are on hand to help you choose the best possible connection depending on the constraints of the chosen environment.

Question 9

What is the Wi-Fi range?

The Wi-Fi is based on the 802.11g standard. The range is 38 meters (90 pi) indoors and 140 meters (300 pi) outdoors. This range could be reduced depending on the structure of the building and any obstacles. Repeaters placed at different locations can be used to extend the range of the Wi-Fi signal. They are easy to configure and generally available from most electronic shops.

Question 10

What should I do in the event of a power failure?

When the station's internal battery is discharged, it stops measuring. On the platform, the device appears in unknown status. To remedy the malfunction, simply reconnect the device and wait for the blue LED to light up continuously.

Question 11

I already have a data logger? How does it work?

A data logger is not necessary because the data is securely stored on the i-ecomesure.com platform. You will have access to your data on the platform for 12 months, the duration of your subscription, and you can easily download it in Excel or CSV format files, or send it via FTP or integrate it via an API link.

Question 12

Do I need a computer to access the data?

No. Thanks to the internet connection and remote server, you can access data from anywhere and from any terminal (computer, PC, tablet, smartphone), without having to move to download the data recorded by the sensors, or needing a particular computer or software.

Question 13

Is the data secured?

Data is encoded and encrypted via a SSL protocol (Secure Socket Layer), a security protocol for internet exchanges. Access to the platform is secured by password. We can encrypt the database further if necessary (Expert)

Question 14

How long does delivery take once an order has been placed?

Approximately three weeks. The configuration is Plug & Play.

Question 15

Is the software updated? How is this carried out?

Yes. We regularly update software for our customers, free of charge. All updates are undertaken on our web servers in the cloud. No updates are required for the hardware for the EcomZen/Zen 2/Smart/Trek/Lite2 stations.

Question 16

Can I change the location of the EcomZen/EcomLite/EcomSmart?

The EcomZen/EcomLite/EcomSmart can be moved easily. The devices are equipped with a GPS that assesses the positioning each time the stations are started up or moved. Please note that with the indoor solutions (EcomZen 2 and EcomLite 2), you either need to plug in the sensor on the outside in order to receive the GPS signal or provide us with the GPS coordinates so that we can integrate them. The position of the device on the web platform is updated accordingly. The GPS coordinates are stored and can be downloaded at the same time as the measurements for further analysis or data visualization.

Question 17

Can the EcomZen/Smart be used in a ventilation duct or in a forced-air heating system?

We can use EcomZen/EcomSmart to intelligently control ventilation systems depending on the indoor and outdoor air quality in order to save energy and for the well-being of the occupants. We aggregate air quality data with ventilation systems: in the event of a peak in pollution, we can adjust the ventilation systems thanks to the Input /Output option with 1st generation (EcomSmart, EcomZen) or with BLE with the 2nd generation of connected systems (EcomZen 2, EcomLite 2, EcomSmart 2). Please contact us if you need more information about this type of project.

We do not recommend that you use a device directly in ventilation systems or chimneys, particularly if you wish to measure particles, as the air flow may interfere with the measurements. Gases may be measured provided that the humidity and temperature levels do not exceed the relevant limit (see the product sheet), but Ecomesure does not recommend this application.

Question 18

For the 4G connection, what type of SIM card should I use and what data plan should I subscribe with my mobility provider?

The data plan should be > 200Mo per month and provide 4G cover. The format of the SIM card should be Micro SIM.We do not recommend a particular service provider.

carte SIM

Once you have ordered your SIM card, you will need to ask your service provider for the following information and send these to us for the purposes of activation:

  • APN
  • Username
  • Password

Note that Verizon in the USA is not supported because there 3G cover is not necessarily provided.

Question 19

Can we store the data on our own servers without using yours?

Yes, definitely. We can apply an API link to aggregate all the data on your server, or we can create local server software, which would need to be specifically developed. Please contact us for further information.

Question 20

How many sensors should we install indoors?

One sensor in every closed room with an area greater than 20m2 and one sensor for every 100m m2.

Question 21

How many sensors do we need to install outdoor?

One EcomSmart every 100 meters (328 feet).

Question 22

How high up should I install the Ecomsmart?

Over 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) to prevent vandalism.

Question 23

Where is the data stored?

Data is stored on the cloud server (web) rather than locally to ensure that you benefit from the digital safety features and can permanently access the data.

Each device also has storage capacity configured to record data temporarily (SD card). This local and temporary storage can therefore resist possible interruptions in the internet connection and record the devices’ data during this interruption. When the connection has been reestablished, the data is transferred to the remote server.

Question 24

I would like a sound alarm to be triggered when peaks in pollution are reached. Is this possible?

Yes, with the Input/Output (I/O) ports that are included with the EcomSmart/EcomZen and BLE option with the EcomSmart 2/EcomZen 2/ EcomLite 2, you can activate/control a fire system, a sound alarm, a ventilation system, and so on.

Question 25

How long is the data kept for?

Data is kept for a year and this can be extended.

Question 26

Is there an android or IoS app?

EcomPlay app is compatible with Android and iOS devices. It makes your experience with the Generation 2 connected devices (EcomZen 2, EcomLite 2, EcomSmart 2) even simpler and easier. EcomPlay allows you to scan the QR-code on your product, create the associated account and let the app guide you through the installation, configuration and troubleshooting.

The i-comesure app is a responsive web application designed for any medium: it is a web application.

Question 27

How much data is transmitted?

200 Mo per month, 6/7 Mo per day. The EcomSmart, EcomZen, EcomZen 2 and EcomLite 2 transmit data every minute (can be adjusted); the EcomTrek every 10 seconds.

Question 28

How can I install devices in a tunnel and connect them to the internet?

This depends on how the radio signals are arranged in the tunnel, which is why it is necessary to carry out an initial study of the area. We can advise you and suggest suitable solutions, such as configuring the EcomSmart stations in Ethernet/Radio connected to a Radio/Ethernet EcomBox or other radio gateway which will transmit a signal to the server.

Question 29

What should I do if one of the sensors stops working or sends back inconsistent data?

When residues, spiders or insects get into your sensor's laser counters, the air intake may be blocked and the data collected distorted. We recommend that you use a workshop vacuum cleaner, suction hose or compressed air to clean the laser counters. Be careful not to perform this action too regularly, as it may damage your sensor.

Question 30

How is calculated the air quality index on the platform?

  • Regarding NO2, CO, O3, SO2 and particulate matter, the index is based on CITEAIR (Common information to European air, co-funded by the European Union's INTERREG IIIC and IVC Programmes). More details: here
  • Regarding CO2, the index is based on ICONE (developed in 2007 by the scientific and technical center for building (CSTB)). The index ranges from 0 to 5 and reflects the balance between air axchange rate and room's occupancy density. It takes into account both the occurence and the intensity of CO2 concentrations. ICONE is now used in the mandatory control of indoor air quality in school and nurseries. It is a relevant and useful tool for building managers to improve ventilations conditions. More details: here
